Use the calculator above for the answer first. The guide below explains the methods in plain language, shows common values, and helps you read the letter-by-letter breakdown without turning the page into a wall of text.
A Gematria calculator gives letters numerical values and adds them together. You can use it for a single word, a full name, a short phrase, or Hebrew text. The total changes with the method you choose, so the breakdown is just as useful as the final number.
This tool includes English Ordinal, English Reverse, Full Reduction, Reverse Full Reduction, and standard Hebrew values. Spaces, punctuation, and unsupported characters are ignored rather than counted.

Two systems can give the same word very different totals. Before comparing results, confirm that both words were calculated with the same alphabet and the same method. That simple check prevents most confusing comparisons.
English Ordinal follows the alphabet directly: A is 1, B is 2, and Z is 26. It is the easiest method to verify by hand and a good starting point for names and everyday words.
| Letter range | Values | Example |
|---|---|---|
| A–I | 1–9 | A = 1, I = 9 |
| J–R | 10–18 | J = 10, R = 18 |
| S–Z | 19–26 | S = 19, Z = 26 |
Reverse Gematria flips the alphabet: Z is 1 and A is 26. It can be useful when you want to compare a word from both directions without changing the spelling.
Full Reduction repeats values from 1 to 9 across the alphabet. J returns to 1, K becomes 2, and the pattern continues. Reverse Full Reduction applies the same repeating pattern from the opposite end.

An English spelling and a Hebrew spelling should not be treated as interchangeable inputs. Hebrew Gematria uses traditional values such as 10 for י, 100 for ק, and 400 for ת. The calculator also recognizes the final letter forms ך, ם, ן, ף, and ץ.
| Word | Value | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Love | 54 | 12 + 15 + 22 + 5 |
| Peace | 30 | 16 + 5 + 1 + 3 + 5 |
| Faith | 44 | 6 + 1 + 9 + 20 + 8 |
| Truth | 87 | 20 + 18 + 21 + 20 + 8 |
| David | 40 | 4 + 1 + 22 + 9 + 4 |
Enter the spelling you actually want to study. A nickname, middle name, initials, and full legal name can all produce different totals. When comparing two names, keep capitalization irrelevant, but keep the spelling and selected method consistent.
The reduced number adds the digits of the total until one digit remains. For example, 54 becomes 5 + 4, which equals 9. This is a numerology-style extra and is not part of every traditional Gematria practice.
No. Spaces, punctuation, numbers, and unsupported symbols are ignored.
Yes. Choose “Show All Methods” to see the totals side by side and then open each breakdown.
The Hebrew method counts Hebrew letters only. English methods count A–Z only.
They overlap, but they are not identical. Gematria begins with letter values, while numerology may also use dates and other number systems.
No. They are numerical and interpretive results for study, comparison, or personal reflection.
